MÚSICA PARA VIOLAS

(Nuevamente bien de Tobías Hume)*

Nuevamente bien
esta noche, tan tarde
para escuchar esa melodía y caer
nuevamente, la lenta y oscura resistencia,
textura
de gruesas ramas de árboles
hamacándose sobre el agua,
de sonido cayendo
por el distante abismo.
Dios y el demonio
deben tocar la viola.
La puerta del mundo
se abre
sobre la emocionada figura de Hume.
Después de la tristeza, del hambre,
ceguera real
a la gran vergüenza de esta tierra
y aquellos que no me ayudan
después de una panzada de caracoles
y de las ráfagas de los laudistas
también buenas
para pasar la noche
en manos de Jordi
y escuchar
e internarse
tan lejos como llegue la melodía.

(Tobias Hume's Good Againe)*

Good again
this night, this late
to hear that tune and fall
again, the slow dark drag,
texture
of thickly branched trees
swaying above water,
of sound moving
from the farthest pit
to pour down.
God and the devil
must play the viol.
The door of the world
swings open
on Hume's excited figure.
After sadness, hunger,
royal blindness
to the great shame of this land
and those that do not help me
after a bellyful of snails
and the sniping of lutenists
good again to stand
with the night
in Jordi's hands
and listen
and walk in
as far as the tune will go.

Peter Sirr nació en Waterford (Irlanda) en 1960 y en la actualidad vive en Dublin donde, hasta 2003, dirigió el Irish Writers' Centre. En la actualidad trabaja como escritor free-lance, editor y traductor. En los últimos años estuvo a cargo de la edición de la Poetry Ireland Review. A la fecha, la editorial Gallery Press publicó sus siguientes libros de poesía: Marginal Zones (1984), Talk, Talk (1987) Ways of Falling (1991), The Ledger of Fruitful Exchange (1995), Bring Everything (2000) y Selected Poems 1982-2004 (2004).
