Qué pasa si los otros

se han ido; queda aún

la calma de las vísceras

esparcidas al alba, en el rocío.

Como una fábula local

fijando los disturbios

de la noche en el pasto

hasta que vino la mañana.

Dormir no es una acción,

sino una teoría.

En la profunda oscuridad, parece

algo cercano a la naturaleza;

pero yo estoy despierto por ahora,

y por los años que vendrán.

What if the others

till morning came.

in the tunnelled dark;

but I am awake for now,

John Burnside nació en Dunfermline, Fife, Escocia, en 1955.  Es poeta, novelista y cuentista. Estudió literatura Inglesa y Europea en el Cambridge College of  Arts and Technology. Trabajó como ingeniero de software antes de dedicarse exdusivamente a la escritura a partir de 1996. Entre sus libros de poesía se cuentan The Hoop (1988); Feast Days (1992); The Asylum Dance (2000); The Ligfit Trap (2001); Gift Songs (2007); The Hunt in the Forest (2009); Black Cat Bone (2011); All One Breath (2014) y Still Life with Feeding Snake (2017). Como novelista, publicó: The Dumb House (1997), The Mercy Boys (1999), The locust room cape (2001),  Living Nowhere (2003) y Las huellas del Diablo (Lumen, 2007).  También es el autor de una colección de historias cortas, Elvis Burning (2000). Ha obtenido numerosos reconocimientos, incluyendo el Geoffrey Faber Memorial Prize y el T.S. Eliot Prize (2011). Fue uno de los 20 poetas seleccionados por la Poetry Society, en 1994, como New Generation Poets. Ex escritor residente en la Universidad de Dundee, actualmente enseña en la Universidad de St Andrews. Vive en su ciudad natal.  Ha sido traducido a una docena de lenguas.
