a mi alrededor. Dijimos cosas, vivimos

Peter Ackroyd (Inglaterra, Londres, 1949)

This beautiful fruit...

This beautiful fruit broken off the tree
a veiled remembrance of all this reality...
so now I go sailing into the empyrean
where my poems may glitter like cars:
we will not see each other, the girl said,
and we will be happy. Night, with its promise
of night, will not return. The perfect stranger
has sailed with me, like a phantom limb.
"Just look up at the stars! The stars!"

Yes, they are dead. The face you don't see
is your own, you see only the light
coiling through childish groves and swamps.
What is it that makes this thing exist?
I woke up, and her words were like trees
around me. We said things, and lived
in order to live, while giants were huffing
and puffing somewhere; whe do not grow wise,
wc are lyng down without rhyme or reason.
